Popular Post Mr Watton 641
We`ve made it! Stage 2 Complete Let me start off with a huge thank you to @Lohen They looked after us from start to finish and for this im very grateful. As always Frank was a pain in the ass. For those who dont know who frank is, Frank is my MINI. A full vehicle check was had which happens all the time before a map is applied to ensure the engine is up to the additional performance, this includes compression checks. Problem wise it started off with an issue with my Forge blow off valve. Because of the higher boost that the map would allow, the spring within the valve wasn't capable so this was replaced by Lohen with a GFB DV+ item. According to the write up for this "This means your MINI will have a sharper throttle response, fast valve actuation and will hold more boost" so that'll do the job then. Then it was time for the rolling road to see what figures we have from the stage 2 map. First pull was a little disappointing but this was due to the wheel spacers I have. On hard acceleration the new map torque was pulling the car further down at the rear so thankfully Lohen removed the spacers and began the rolling road process all again (thanks again Lohen for the headaches this caused). Anyhow, we have a figure of 242bhp and 367nm. All three pulls were more or less the same so for me this is super consistent. Whats holding back the MINI now is the Turbo. A JCW turbo would be my initial idea but i am aware of Hybrid turbos and more but that leads me on to forging which is an obvious high cost. The way i have gone is in my view a reliable and good B road killer, but lets see Drive home was fun but mainly because the weather was shocking and im still driving with the Toyo T1Rs. These are painfully shocking in the wet so that added with the new found power and torque made it, well, lets say fun. The initial pull is fantastic, and mid range acceleration is immense...I cant put it in to better words if im honest. Everything is just so much more on point! Two things to add here as well, the engine temps are a lot lower. Now fluctuating between 78c and 85c compared to the usual 108c. I also dont have any more pops and bangs despite asking at the time of the map to have it introduced (also known as party mode). Lohen advised that due to how early my r56 S is, the ECU wasn't able to be mapped with it. I think this makes it more stealthy to be honest Anyone interested in getting a map from Lohen then I couldn't praise them more. Michael was a star from start to finish! If you want this map you will need the following mods: Must haves: Sports cat / decat - Fitted 200 cel Milltek Sports Cat Uprated Spark Plugs -Fitted NGK ILKR8E6 Uprated Intercooler - Fitted Airtec Induction kit - Fitted Stage 1 JCW Airbox with ITG foam filter Optional: Diverter valve - Fitted GFB DV+ Lightweight Flywheel - Fitted HELIX AUTOSPORT PERFORMANCE ORGANIC CLUTCH & SINGLE MASS FLYWHEEL KIT Limited Slip Diff - To do QUAIFE ATB DIFFERENTIAL FOR MINI (GEN 1 & 2) Hope this helps anyone who is interested in getting their MINI mapped my Lohen. Im happy to discuss any questions you have https://www.lohen.co.uk
LewisE 360
Great write up Si! I was super impressed with Frank on the day and I think it'll take you a long while to get bored of that power and go hunting for JCW turbos Looking forward to getting out again and seeing what he's made of especially when he's got some capable rubber wrapped around his wheels. I'll have ride shotgun and see what a difference your clutch and flywheel make once we're all allowed to be near each other again! It was a great experience and I wish we could do it all again. I hope you're enjoying yours as much as I've been enjoying mine
MiniMe 1
Hi Simon how we’re wheel spacers interfering exactly? What problem did they cause?
Super Moderator Kettlepot 434 Posted December 3, 2020 Super Moderator Share Posted December 3, 2020 Nice one guys, it’s nice to here positive feedback for a change, especially in the current pandemic negativity. Driving these beasts gives you guys something to look forward too in the new year. I keep saying one day ! But as many have heard all too often “it’ll have to wait until after the clutch has been replaced”
Mr Watton 641
Cheers @LewisE was a great time overall, and its something seeing someone else driving your car isn't it, always looks mega ha ha. I think you're right re the power. Think itll take me a while to get used to. Tyres dont give me any confidence currently so that could change very soon. 🧐 You're right @Kettlepot re the clutch. Its a big deciding factor when you factor in all the extra power and torque that any map produces. Ill be honest and say i never even thought id go stage 2 back in the day when i fitted the clutch and flywheel all those years ago. I just did them because it was shot, and its not cheap by all means, I get that. What isn't cheap about MINIs when I come to think of it 🤣😲

Hi @MiniMe and welcome to FULL ON MINIs 😃 The rear tyres were rubbing on the rear arches. Dont normally have a problem but I guess with it being strapped down, add a driver and the extra torque being applied it was pulling the rear further down than usual 😀

What problem did they cause? Because it was a 4 wheel dyno, the rear wheels were also spinning and as Simon has said the rear squatted so much that the outer of the tyre was rubbing on the inside of the arch 👍🏻

Get the SD remapped and then the clutch needing replaced will come around a lot quicker really you're just accepting your fate sooner if you do it that way around. Plus you can get the timing chain checked while the 'box is off 😛 win win I think
Super Moderator Kettlepot 434 Posted December 14, 2020 Super Moderator Share Posted December 14, 2020 I know what you are saying @LewisE but I’d rather have the clutch in for the remap so I get some decent power runs on the dyno.
