Back to the fold R55 Cooper S

Recommended Posts

Back in a mini!

Finally got a clubman cooper s. 2008 model, 51000 miles, full history with a folder full of receipts, chain and tensioner changed last year.

Had it about for 4 weeks now but been on holiday for two of them.

Things to do:

Lose the orange indicator bulbs

Fit a mfsw

Fit drl's

Change the dash led colour (not a fan of orange)

That's it for now for the run up to Xmas.

I love it, the wife hates it!!

It's funny you should say "the wife hates it" that allows for some sneaky mods "it's always been like that"

"flames, flames have always came out the exhaust"

"Lowered ? It's always been this high"

[emoji23]

There may be on or two issues in regards to the mfsw, it isn't quite as straight forward as plug and play, some folks have made it work, others have struggled. If you get stuff at the right price then it might be worth a punt.

Looking forward to seeing how you get on with this.

I've trawled the net regarding the mfsw and come to the conclusion it's down to if the switch cluster is compatible. Plenty of cheap wheels on ebay and plough motors will code it for £20. Think it'll just be a punt and hope I've got a compatable switch gear [emoji848], if not give up!

Talking of flames I went to look a another clubman and it turns out it was 'pedro's bus'! To loud, would have never gotten that past the wife! As it is I bought this one when she was on holiday with her sister [emoji6]

Top work, @bongo (Alec) has been trying to get this to work on his but having one or two issues. If I remember correctly his issue mainly lies with the build date of his car and a crossover of parts. Fingers crossed you get it to work and post up on here what you did etc

Have had a coolant leak for the past week steadily getting worse. So after a bit of googling and arm shoved down the back of a dark engine bay the diagnosis was a failed thermostat housing [emoji849]. Brother in law works for a parts supplier so new thermostat acquired and fitted today when I got up ( on night shift). Offending item below and I now have a leak free coolant system [emoji41]f2ef8de6d55c922911c6f4f938d35ffe.jpg201709 ... d35ffe.jpg"><a href=https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170918/f2ef8de6d55c922911c6f4f938d35ffe.jpg' alt='URL>'>

Wasn't to bad, took about hour and half from start to finish. Looked at a video on you tube by "mod mini" but didn't bother disconnecting ecu wiring as could work around it.

Did you get a new slip ring or was it the multi function one ?

Haven’t changed the slip ring, after trawling net couldn’t decipher which part numbers were mfsw compatable and which weren’t?

Local bmw specialist will code wheel in for £20. For the sake of £20 I thought I’d try original slip ring before I start trying to find another one!

Fingers crossed!

Fair enough, as I said earlier I’m interested in hearing how you get on.

Good luck fixing the oil leak [emoji1303]

ohh a good ol' MFSW challenge! According to MINI its basically pot luck if your car has the correct loom/modules. I'd read loads of threads, specifically on NAM that said it can be done. Its not true. Its easier if your car was made after Sept 07 which yours definitely is though. Mine's a Jul 07 :x When mine tries to get coded it comes back with a missing module error

Getting the correct slip ring is a PITA. You have to find the one that matches your car with the correct light and DSC options, and if you can't you have to fork out £400 for a new one, so for the sake of £20 I would see if yours can be coded. Good luck :good:
