My 2007 R56 Cooper S

Painting the face would either mean painting on top of the clear coat or sanding it back. For best results I'd sand it back. Often with diamond cut wheels the face is so smooth there is very little for the paint to bond to so if there is any weakness it will be on the diamond cut edge. I have the urge to buy a set of wheels that are in need of a refurb but I don't have the tools to do it and I have no patience waiting for paint to dry and end up either putting too much on or messing the whole job up altogether.

Yeah will be leaving the machined face as it is-would of preferred to paint it though. I’m hoping to borrow my mates mini compressor and spray gun. Never painted wheels [emoji854] Got to start somewhere haha [emoji23]

Will be going gloss black....but maybe change if can find something else [emoji848]

something Ive always fancied trying is a different colour behind the face (the main body of the wheel) but may need to come through to the front to pull it off properly. I nearly had a guy to try this with a wheel but it took him a couple of months to get back to me so the wheels were already done (somewhere else) in one colour

Was thinking of maybe painting them in body colour to match, but not too sure it will look good. Or get a black paint mixed with extra metallic

My personal view is that black looses detail although these wheels don't have a huge amount. I also think they'd get lost as body colour. You could try wrapping the faces to try something different. I nearly got mine done Pepsi blue, almost wish I had now.

The standard colour on them is a satin finish, but these were redone by someone else in gloss finish. Had thought about a satin finish, cherry shade possibly

The little plastic finishers, and I’m sure there’s a mounting bracket missing. I’ll get a picture when I’m at the car tomorrow [emoji51]

I ended up buying the complete set-up. I bought the compartment on its own first, but struggled getting the other bits. Found someone selling complete unit with everything included

What an expensive few weeks for the Mini, just before xmas! [emoji53] Had to get a new rear passenger side brake caliper-siezed. Of course it had to wreck the disc and pad too, so a new set of rear discs and pads were fitted with the caliper. Then last week the fuel pump decides its had enough of working and packs in [emoji53] Fitted a replacement one yesterday (used not new). Also fitted a new battery today, because still had a cold start issue this morning. Hoping the new battery resolves that issue. Need to get xmas out of the way now and get more pennies back in the bank [emoji53]

Got a new interior modification but not fitted them, due to other Mini issues. Losing love for the Mini at the moment [emoji20]

So a good Christmas present would be £40 or a full tank of fuel so you can go and give it a good drive and enjoy it again

Went for a blast in it last night, seemed to run fine. But had the cold starr issue this morning. Put a new battery on incase it is that. See what happens in the morning 🤞🏻 Been out in it today too. Hoping it is ok tomorrow [emoji53]

Odd on the starting issue. I get it sometimes where it just turns and turns then after 20 secs it fires. And ive had a new pump :(

Well it did it again-cold start issue still there [emoji53] Need to get xmas over with and then get stuck into resolving the issues on my Mini. It will be getting a de-coke, new spark plugs again and a new timing chain. If still have the issue, then it will be getting a few litres of Shell’s finest poured over it and a lit match put to it [emoji848]

Did you change the battery type or exact copy replacement ?

If it’s different, did you get it coded ? The car may need to be told it has a better battery on. They have all weird and wonderful controllers. If the battery gets low, the car can disable cruise control and similar

Changed battery like for like. The one I took off did’nt look like it had been on long (say 2 yrs maximum). Only put new one on to try and elimate cold start issue. Fuel pump I fitted is’nt brand new (hope its not giving me same problem as old one). Will be borrowing my mates car computer in next couple of days, do some data checking then

Is the thermostat housing ok? I had a feeling sometimes that if the temp sensor in the housing isn't reading the the right coolant temp it may effect how the ECU fuels for cold starting....

...just another idea to add to the mix.

The thermostat housing was replaced in April (by a BMW/Mini specialist) before I bought it. Got receipt of work done.

My Mini is really doing my head in now-cold start issue is really really...... annoying lets say (family forum so being family friendly) [emoji53]

Hmmmmm. I would get the compressions checked, as well as checking spark plugs as a next step

I replaced the spark plugs and coil packs about 3 months ago. I’m thinking its still the fuel pump [emoji848]

Found that there is a Mini Specialist in Warrington (15 min drive from me). Going to see about taking my Mini there for a diagnostic check-up

For what its worth, and dead easy to do, and peace of mind, carry out a compression check. You "should" do them on a cold and hot engine usually. get the specialist to try that so you dont spend any more large amounts of money.

Will hopefully be having a chat tomorrow with the specialist (ex BMW techs). Discuss issues and options, and will bring up the compression test
