So since driving down to MINI In The Park I’ve had this odd rotational noise. The fear of it being bottom end knocking N14 life dawned on me, but after some investigational work this morning I “think” I’ve tracked it down the the belt tensioner that goes between the crank and the water pump. Once I put the tensioner into service mode it feels like the whole assembly and the roller is 100000 mile loose! Water pump feels good by hand, and the aircon pump that’s never been activated since 2014 seems ok too.

Heres a lovely crude drawing of what and where I mean.

Just need to buy one now before it detonates itself (it really is that noisy)

That looks to be a arkward place to get to but a healthier option than the bottom end.

will it take much to replace ?

I don’t think it’ll be too back, just three bolts which are quite short looking at the info I have on them.

Dont think it’ll be ready this weekend mind 😖

New part day! It’s not that exciting if I’m honest, and dreading the job in rebuilding it. Not a job to be done I don’t think unless the engine is removed, or you have hours of patience and a good 10mm spanner

so I should be still good for this Sunday’s DDB Meet 👍🏻

Genuine Dayco part - £85.99 (inc 3 bolts) 👍🏻

Labour - Priceless (meaning I’m doing it) 😄

It looks higher but it’s aftually the same height on the left and right profiles, and 2mm higher at the middle.

I wonder what to do next 😬

So, picked up my new MINI today. It's been a long long time coming that's for sure, and I couldn't be happier.

It's a MINI Cooper S in Dark Silver with matching roof and "ears" lol. It has the dealer fitted JCW pack, number 364 which includes the induction kit, JCW exhaust and the remap. It's mechanically sound, pulls like a train, mmmmmmm :)

Interior wise it's full leather, aircon and heated seats for next years winter months lol. I've already upgraded the interior lighting, but dash light wise that will follow in time, when I have time haha.

Body wise it's not perfect, which doesn't bother me to badly. But it's a MINI I will be keeping for many many years to come, but I will get it to my usual standards. A bonus for me is the aerokit, but I'm sure one morning I'm gonna wake up with Donna detaching it to fit on her own lol.

I've got it home, gave it a good wash and clean behind the ears. A good once over and I'm over the moon. I think me rambling on here shows that...sorry lol

So yep, This shall be the start of my build thread, with plenty more to come :)

Simon

Wellllllll the tapping noise I had, was still doing it after the tensioner was replaced. But, today I replaced the aux belt and ta dahhhhh no more tap tap tap tap!

Youll see what was probably causing the noise between the tensioners, causing a slapping effect I guess from the raised area.

New belt to left, old belt to the right. Note the raised area to the belt, definite internal failure of the belt (only changed a couple of years ago, less than 8k done on it and a proper Gates belt too)

New rib structure left, worn on the right.

Busy, but productive day, until something else breaks 😂
