  1. Thanks @Bornared I appreciate it. I just want to make sure that any pads I go for are not too hard for road use. Years ago I had M1144 ones on a car and they are almost dangerous.

  10. I quite fancy this. @Mr Watton I'd be happy to chuck my car on the FOM stand if there is room. Probably need to take some detailing stuff to clean it upon arrival. I've not bought a ticket yet - do you think this needs doing soon?
  11. Cracked a disc! Wow. My fluid was changed by MINI last year actually. Yeah my issue is quite a puzzle. It might just be as simple as the fact that mine need to be warm to work better but I just don't know. @Mr Watton I think actually when we looked you said whilst they weren't knackered they were significantly worn meaning the pedal would need to travel more to operate them. Last year MINI said discs and pads needed changing then independent said they did not. It's all a big puzzle but I'm reluctant to put in a 5.1 unless I can be sure I can get one that won't damage seals etc. I thought a JCW would have 5.1 in as standard but I was wrong. I'm half tempted now to just buy a small bottle of dot 4 and bleed mine to see if there is any air in there.
  12. Thanks. I may indeed upgrade discs and pads although many moons ago I had M1144 pads on (a previous car) and they were terrible unless you were racing. At town speeds they were almost dangerous - presume a hard compound. I'd probably go for drilled and grooved discs too but perhaps standard pads. I feel like there may be air in the system as they are inconsistent. For example, I once left a car park with cold car, pulled out and had to stop immediately for the lights. I was doing like 15 mph. They were terrible, like a spongy pedal. Then for the rest of the trip they were back to normal. Given the bubbling paint I mentioned I presume the fluid will have gotten hot. But then again I'm no mechanic!
  13. Following a recent spirited drive down from Hartside I've noticed my brakes aren't what they should be. At the time the brakes stank and when I safely pulled over the hammerite I'd applied to the hub part of the disc (obviously not the braking surface ) was bubbling, so I think a lot of heat was generated. As the brakes are rather inconsistent now I presume I've boiled the brake fluid. I'd like to try putting 5.1 in but as always there are mixed views of whether you should, you could damage seals and so on. Has anyone done this and if so, can you please recommend a brand? Thanks.

  16. Looking forward to this. Had a little warm up run tonight up to Hartside, car performed brilliantly. Unfortunately I er, found the limits of my brakes : bubbling Hammerite - oops 😂
  17. Like I say the Brum dealer had machine polished (or 'mopped' as they call it) the car twice but the fading wouldn't budge. If your car has no clear coat you'll be golden but if it has, beware. Also as a Brucie Bonus the stripes removal exposed a very light knife mark in the bonnet, parallel with one of the stripe edges. I believe the stripes were there from new but I guess this was just bad luck. Real shame for that car as it was otherwise lovely with 9,000 miles on the clock.
  18. @LCWElvin I'd think twice if I were you on removing the stripes. Before I viewed mine I looked at a black one in Brum. It had white stripes which weren't to my taste. I told the dealer this long before arranging a viewing and they said they would remove them without obligation to buy. When I viewed the car you could see a mile away where they'd been. Of course all paint fades but it was brand new where the stripes had been and being under the clear coat it couldn't be buffed out. Probably worse on black but worth thinking about. I guess if you removed them and had this issue you could just fit some more but if you are undecided maybe it's worth leaving them be.
  19. @Mr Watton I concur that for a 5..95 it certainly does impress - a true ASBO edition that clearly is an angry little blighter! They needn't have bothered fitting a stereo as the engine and exhaust note are a true musical instrument. Of course some may read this and get the wrong impression; have no fear @Littleredhead all speed limits were strictly obeyed on the drive out , weren't they @Mr Watton ?
  20. @essjay7272 it looks like you've had a change of heart (if I've read this correctly) - good - it would be such a shame to sell what looks a lovely car. I've sold cars in the past and regretted it. I won't go on about my beautiful 91' 205 Gti 1.9 in Miami blue which some muppet bought then SCRAPPED to buy a Citroen Picasso under the scrappage scheme! For me with regard a JCW, one of my non-negotiable must-haves is a sun roof! What can I say, I like the sun
  21. Nope - the one I was looking at sold! Grrr. To be fair it was in Kent - a long bloody way away! It sold quick and it was an auto like mine - I half thought autos would be hard to shift - I guess I thought wrong.
  22. Perhaps! I need to see what mine is worth in part ex. It may come to nothing but it doesn't hurt to look. Such a shame it has the leather. @Kettlepot my seats are the standard MCS LCI half leathers - they'd match the rest of the JCW trim as it has everything else the same as mine, such as the colour line. My seats are mint too, only 35k on them. Given I've nowhere to store a set of seats I'd be tempted to take the hit on the value loss. I"d be keeping it for a long time so it needs to be right. Thanks for the heads up at least I know its do-able, albeit a bit of a faff.

  24. Hi all. So as some of you know I often get 'jcw envy' . As such I keep lurking on the auto trader and now and again see nice JCW's which fit the bill bar they have leather - I prefer cloth. I was just wondering how difficult it is to swap over seats ? Principally it's just bolts but I know nothing about the air bags. Anyone done this ? Is there any coding involved ? Thanks in advance.
